Just look at it! But no seriously; that's a big claim - here's why we back it up. Each belt is made in our workshop in Wales from Italian leather and English suede. These are some of the finest leathers for belt making in terms of quality and support but also appearance (look good lift good!).

The 2mm thick English Suede outer is embroidered with our MODIFIT logo (using German threads to keep the European manufacturing theme!), which sandwich Italian Top Grain Vegetable Tanned Leather, which comes in at around 6mm thick. The top grain is the strongest part of the hide as the fibres are most densely packed.

Inside the belt is finished with Black Suede from an English tannery. Upholstery leather comes from the bottom layer of the split as it is the softest section.

Added together the belt measures a whopping 9.5mm thick. A typical belt will measure in the region of 5-6mm thick, so this is some serious support. Having the taper of a weightlifting belt allows the belt to still keep you mobile.

Easiest way is to summarise how cheap belts are made:

- Majority of non-UK belts are made in Pakistan or China
- They use split leather which is lower quality than top grain
- Chrome tanning process used, involving chromium salts
- Harsh chemicals are used in order to speed up the process
- Lower quality end product compared to vegetable tanned leather
- Middle and Far East tanneries lack skills of European and American counterparts
- Cheap chrome tanned belts often break within 1-2 years, especially at holes
- Chrome tanned belts identifiable by grey, papery substance in holes

Whilst we:

- Hand make our belts using the finest materials, built to last
- Use only top grain Italian vegetable tanned leather and English suede
- Higher price, but lifetime durability (and warranty)
- Lifetime guarantee: repairs or replacements for any breakages

WHAT IS VEGETABLE TANNING?
Vegetable leather is tanned using the traditional bark method, which takes several months to soften due to the thickness of the leather.  As it uses natural / earthy ingredients there are no harmful pollutants going into the environment. This process creates a very durable leather that lasts a lifetime. These belts are guaranteed for life. As it is made from natural products you will need to be sensible with how you store it - don't leave it at the bottom of your gym bag under your wet gym clothes and that manky old towel that's been in there for weeks.

IS LEATHER ETHICAL?
All leather from cows is a byproduct of the meat industry. Whilst beef is being eaten there is no reason not to use leather. No cow is reared for its skin. All the leather we use comes from Italian, French and Portuguese tanneries which source their raw hides from responsible farmers.
