3″ Powerlifting Belt – Huge Choice of Colours

We have a large stock of different leathers both English and Italian. These are high quality hides used in the upholstery industry for bespoke leather sofas, so are extremely tough and hard wearing, with an exceptional finish. Here is a selection of belts made in the colours available, we don’t take pictures of every belt so some are pictures of weightlifting belts, some are 3″ and some are 4″. The leather image is so you have an idea of the different options available. If you’d like more pictures of a certain leather please drop us a message.

There are various types of leathers that we use: pull-up, aniline pull up, pigmented, burnish calf and vegetable tanned split.

Pull-Up Leather

This has a mottled or aged look to it. Examples of this are:

Aniline Pull-Up Leather

Similar to pull -up leather aniline finish as a bit more of shine to it. They are designed to become distressed over time, giving a rich colour and texture. Examples of this are: Mottled Brown, Aniline Black.

This is your more traditional upholstery leather. One solid colour with texture / grain in the leather. Examples of this are: Tan Brown, Speckled Brown, Red-Brown, Brown, Black, Navy, Steel Grey, Light Grey, White & Red.

Burnish Calf

This is a hard-wearing leather often used in shoes (though often much thicker than the 1.5mm we use). Made from calf leather it is very supple and with a smooth waxy finish with a very subtle grain. Examples of this are: Rose Tan

Vegetable Tanned Split

Very similar to vegetable tanned leather (which we use in 3.5mm thickness in the middle of the belts) is vegetable tanned split leather. The leather hide (usually around 6mm to start) is split and the bottom section which is more fibrous (called the flesh split) is buffed a bit for a texture with rich colour. Examples of this are: Sunburst Orange.

We also have various other leathers with unique finishes. Examples of this are: Snakeskin Effect (this is cow leather that has gone through a roller to press a snakeskin effect into it). Hard wearing, similar shine to aniline finish. We also have a bomber jacket leather that is similar to pull-up and aniline pull-up, but has a dull finish and an aged look.

Hand Made in Wales – ModiFit Elite 3″ wide 10mm thick Powerlifting Belt. This is high quality leather, sourced in the UK, manufactured and assembled in Wales. The belt is made from 4 pieces of leather and measures 10mm thick, though there will be some slight variation due to it being natural product. Each belt is made of four layers of leather – the outer and inner layers are usually upholstery leather which is around 1.5mm thick, with 2 layers of vegetable tanned shoulder in the middle giving rigidity and thickness. We have a whole choice of colours available and from time to time have some special prints (Crocodile skin effect, mottled effect, aged effect) and will offer these when we can. Please note, these items are made to order so do take a couple of weeks to make. You can also personalise your belt with a custom logo, which adds about a week to production time. As they are made to order you cannot return for a refund if you do not like it or it doesn’t fit. If there is a fault we will fix the item. This is in line with Consumer Contract Regulations (CCRs). If you’re unsure on sizing please drop us a message and we will be happy to help.

There are 4 layers of leather that make up this belt:

  • Outer Layer – 1.5mm Leather (choice of colours)
  • Middle Layer – 3.5mm Vegetable Tanned Leather
  • Middle Layer – 3.5mm Vegetable Tanned Leather
  • Inner Layer – 1.5mm Leather (choice of colours)

All 3 leathers are sourced from UK & Italian tanners, with the hides then hand cut in the workshop in Wales, glued, stitched, holes punched and buckle rivetted on. Then it’s boxed and packed ready to be whisked off to you.

Meets IPF Spec – Not IPF Approved

These are to IPF spec from Technical Rule Book 2014 (updated January 2014), however you will need to confirm with your powerlifting federation if they accept our belts in competition. Our belts have been used in BDFPA competitions. Please note, these are heavy duty powerlifting belts that will be really stiff when you first get it. If you’ve used a decent powerlifting belt before you will know this and know it takes a bit of time for it to break in! Fortunately, as these are our Elite belts, the leather is already pretty soft, so break-in time will be minimal!

Belt is 3″ wide (7.5cm).

Powerlifting Belt – Sizing Information

* Please note – this is for Powerlifting belts only. Olympic Weightlifting belts and Velcro belts have their own sizing, which can be found on the product pages of those items. Also to note, our UK made belts are slightly different sizing, so please refer to the sizing in the main description for UK made belts *

Each belt has 8 holes spaced over 8″. The info below shows which belt will be the best fit depending on your waist measurement (as detailed below). To confirm – do not rely on your trouser size as this is often different to your belly button measurement.

Although the holes are spaced over 8″ the info below is for the first 7 holes, leaving one hole spare, as really you don’t want to on the last hole on a belt.

  • Small: 21″ – 28″
  • Medium: 25″ – 32″
  • Large: 29″ – 36″
  • Extra Large: 32.5″ – 39.5″
  • Double XL: – 34.5″ – 41.5″
  • Triple XL: – 36.5″ – 43.5″
  • 4XL: 38.5″ – 45.5″
  • 5XL: 40.5″ – 47.5″
  • 6XL: 42.5″ – 49.5″
  • 7XL: 44.5″ – 51.5″

Please see our Terms and Conditions page for full info.

We offer free delivery on UK orders over £40. All orders are sent with Royal Mail on 48 Tracked and Signed service. Over £40 we also offer a reduced price Royal Mail 24 Tracked service (£2.95). Any order that weighs over 2kg will go with UK Mail on a next working day service.

We want you to be completely satisfied with your order. It is important to us that you are delighted with your purchase but if for any reason you are not, and feel the need to send the item back, we offer a 35 DAY returns policy, starting from the date of  order. If you are not happy or you need to change something, the easiest thing to do is to email us so that we both have a record of it. We are happy to exchange any item for you at no extra charge for UK customers (you will need to cover postage of item sent back to us). Overseas customers will need to pay for postage of the replacement item. If an item is damaged or the wrong item was sent we will usually cover return postage.

For a refund you will need to return your order to us within 35 days of making your order (5 weeks). After this time you will no longer be eligible for a refund. We aim to process your refund the same week it arrives back with us. Items being returned for a refund will need to be returned in new condition and with the original packaging.

Items are returned at your own cost. We would recommend UK customers sending 2nd class. Please note returning an order is at your cost so it is up to you to decide which service you opt for. If the item fails to arrive with us again that is for you to take up with Royal Mail. We are not responsible for lost returns. Please ensure that you do not return an item without a note inside with your name and order number, as we won’t be able to ascertain who the order is from without this.

If you qualified for free or reduced rate shipping and you part return your order your order will be recalculated to see if you still qualify for free shipping. If when returning an item your order is below the free / reduced rate shipping threshold, this will be deducted from your refund.

For example:

If you ordered a weightlifting belt at £29.99 and knee sleeves at £29.99 your order would come to £59.98. If you choose free shipping (Royal Mail 48 Tracked) and you returned the belt for a refund your order would be recalculated as: Knee Sleeves (£29.99) + Shipping (£3.95), as the knee sleeves are below the free shipping threshold. Your new order would be £33.94, so a refund of £59.98 – £33.94 would be issued (£26.04).

If you ordered on our 3 for 2 deal, or buy 1 get 2nd at 20% off and you part return your order your order will be recalculated as if it was a new order as above, with the refund being the difference between the original order and the new order.

We get a lot of messages asking if our powerlifting belts are IPF approved. Previously any manufacturer making supportive equipment simply had to follow the rules laid out by the IPF in terms of belt thickness, width, length etc., and this was enough to be approved. This is still the model followed by the IWF for weightlifting. Unfortunately in 2015 this changed to a pay per product model, i.e. the manufacturer would pay a fee for their belts, a fee for knee wraps etc., with the license running from Jan 2015 to Dec 2018. The new approval list will be released Jan 2019 and so we have received pricing from the IPF. The price for approval for belts is 7000EUR, which is not too bad – although there are 3 categories – Prong (single and double), lever and quick release, so if we wanted all of our belts approved we’d need to pay 3 x 7000EUR. Unfortunately any equipment manufacturers seeking approval also HAVE to buy a sponsorship package. The minimum tier of sponsorship is 30,000EUR per year and minimum of 4 years. Clearly 51,000EUR a year for 4 years is a fat whack of dosh. If we sold 1,000 belts that would equate to 51EUR per belt. 95% of our customers are simply looking for a great belt at a reasonable price. We know our belts are already used in BDFPA meets, but we will also be contacting as many other UK federations to check whether our belts meet their approval. We understand many people who are asking about IPF approval need it for a local competition who simply refer to equipment being IPF approved when in fact they may not need to be. Just wanted to make people aware when they ask about IPF approval, as the costs involved are astronomical, when once they were zero.

BDFPA, APBU Approval

Good news however is our belts are approved for use in federations such as BDFPA and APBU, as well as other federations. Our belts meet typical specifications in most federations, the only federations where you cannot use our belts are ones where they state explicitly that equipment must be on the IPF’s approved equipment manufacturer list. Typically these federations ask that the belt is no more than 4″ wide and less than 13mm thick, as well as a few other things. Our belts meet this spec, but if you’ve got any other questions, or if you’re not sure if your federation will let you use our belts then feel free to ask us.
